Michael Kassing
Founder & Chief Visionary OfficerMichael Kassing is the Co-Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of insured.io, where he focuses on product vision, emerging technology, and finding better ways to solve the often complicated problems faced by insurance carriers, agents, and policyholders.
Michael has spent more than two decades at the intersection of insurance, software, law, and entrepreneurship. Before founding insured.io in 2011, he co-founded MarkTend, a cloud-based trademark docketing and monitoring platform launched in 2008 and later acquired by Alt Legal. Throughout his career, he has built businesses and technology around a common idea: take something unnecessarily difficult and make it simpler.
His background is somewhat less conventional than the average software founder. Michael served as a combat medic in the U.S. Army, earned a B.S. in Geology and an M.S. in Geologic Oceanography, and later received his Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. He is also a licensed California Property & Casualty Broker-Agent and the founder and principal broker of InsuranceMonster, an independent California insurance brokerage. He considers himself a lifelong learner and is rarely without a new skill, subject, or project to figure out.
Outside of work, Michael has a habit of collecting projects almost as quickly as companies. He rides motorcycles, scuba dives, skydives, and enjoys digging up old things and figuring out how to make them work again. His restoration projects tend toward old farm equipment and other mysterious pieces of machinery, and he currently holds a claim on a 19th-century gold mine (because apparently regular hobbies weren't quite enough).
